Circle Review

Mecca is one of those circles that's meant only for adults. Your introduction to this circle, depending on which book you happen to pick up, would probably have you in shock. There's only one word for it - shameless and proudly so.

Warnings aside, you'll be glad to find out that it's not just about the smut. Her Trowa is magnificent. He's drawn to be sexy and gorgeous. Oftentimes he'll act like a perverted seme who's always hoping that the next aphrodisiac is going to work on an unsuspecting Quatre. However, he's also the sweet lover who makes sure that his Quatre gets whatever he wants, whether it be in bed or otherwise.

Quatre's art, on the other hand, may be harder to appreciate because he's drawn to look young and horrifyingly cute. In fact, he doesn't look much like the Quatre we all know and love from the Gundam Wing series. The again, if you're into cute Quatres then this is the circle for you. Quatre has large, innocent eyes and an attitude that just shows that he's sugary sweet. Don't be fooled, however. Sweet Quatre is also a naughty lover who advertently or inadvertently seduces Trowa, turning him into mush. One disturbing detail though is that he has tiny, tiny organs.

Overall, this circle has the perfect mixture of sweetness and sexuality. It isn't as easy to appreciate as other artist's styles but it still is very unique and exceptional in its own way.

You might have noticed as well that Haruka/Kazuka Minami's professional manga characters resemble our beloved Quatre and Trowa. This could certainly be claimed for her earlier works where the characters are exact replicates of the two. However, you'll notice as years pass that although it looks like Quatre and Trowa reappear again and again, their appearances vary. It's almost as if Quatre and Trowa have been modified to create a new character. Perhaps it could be claimed that it's simply a result of her art style. Of course, we're all free to assume that she's a hardcore TQ fan. She does, after all, represent herself in some mangas as a goofy Trowa bunny. ^_^

Recommended Books

I'll be recommending 2 extremes here - extremely safe and extremely NC-17. On the safer side, you might want to check out Crystalize. It's pretty thick and includes lots of sweet little stories. If you'd like the opposite, however, pick up Vanilla Drops 1 because it's a compilation of a lot of Mecca's books without the novels. It's saturated smut all around, page after page of it, leaving nothing for your imagination. Another good pick would be Full Moon Night because it's just too cute for words.

For her professional mangas, Egoist Na Seishokusha and Kohitsuji Hokaku Keikaku 1 would be good picks if you're looking for more substance. Egoist Na Seishokusha is about the relationship between a student and his teacher and Kohitsuji Hokaku Keikaku is one naughty and clever book. Two seme-like hotties are after two other uke-like cuties. The only problem is, the cuties are with each other so they have to device a plan to separate the two. For hot books, you could pick everything else out. They're all good. ^_~
